Morab Horse History

The Morab breed comes from two breeds, one is of ancient desert descent and the other is from American colonial days. The Morab parentage is a result of breeding an Arabian to a Morgan. The Arabian Horse Association registers full Arabian breeding and half Arabian breeding. The first generation Morab is a Half Arabian. Registering a Morab, as a Half-Arabian, with the Arabian Horse Association It is very popular. Thus, a Morab can have Morab registration and Half Arabian registration.  This is referred to as double registered Morab. Future breeding, of that Morab to an Arabian, is also eligible for Half Arabian registration.

Morab Horse Attributes:

The Morab is a versatile horse. The special attributes of the Morab make it a mount for the family and 4-H children. The body structure and endurance of the Morab lends this breed to a variety of equine pursuits of competition across many disciplines. PMHA desires to assist potential, current, and future owners of Morabs in their pursuit of ownership of a Morab by disseminating information about the Morab breed throughout North America and internationally.

Both the Arabian and Morgan have been historically recognized for their ability to pass on many of their outstanding qualities to their offspring no matter what breeds are improved by their heritage. The Arabian is considered to be the oldest breed of horse in the world and nearly all fine breeds worldwide carry Arabian blood. The Morgan horse, America’s first breed, shares a similar distinction: their blood flows in many of America’s breeds—the American Saddlebred, Standardbred, Tennessee Walking Horse, and American Quarter Horse. Thus, the Morab horse carries the treasured blood of both the old and new worlds!
